Her estranged father, Michael Lohan, continues to tell whoever happens to be listening that his daughter, Lindsay, is in serious trouble and will probably end up dead one of these days if an intervention is not staged. On the other hand, the actress herself insists all that is past her and that she’s now clean as a whistle, a much better person who has seen the error of her ways (story via here).

In a recent interview, Lindsay admitted that, at one point, she had serious problems with drugs, prescription pills and alcohol, saying of that bleak period in her life that it was the closest she ever came to self-destruction. She only realized she was addicted when her father pointed it out to her, but it took her some time until she acknowledged just how bad she was and got some help for her problem by going to rehab.

“When my father was going public, that’s when I hit rock bottom. I abused substances too much and it wasn’t the answer to my problems. I tried to mask my problems with alcohol, cocaine, and mind-altering substances. Now I’m in a place where I don’t need to use anything and I feel emotions because I choose to. I never want to be close to losing everything I worked for and aspired to have my whole life. I’ve made some dreadful mistakes but learned from them – that has probably saved my life,” Lindsay says in a recent interview.

Also in it, Lohan offers details on her first trip to rehab, details that have been kept well under wraps until now. “The first time I checked myself in because I had taken Ambien. It’s a sleeping aid but it makes you hallucinate. I’d run a bath and fallen asleep on the floor and it overflowed. When I woke up, I was so scared I called my therapist and said, ‘Can I just go somewhere for a month? I’m around bad people and I need to take care of myself.’ I was terrified, so I put my name in,” the actress explains.

Apparently, Michael Lohan played a crucial role in making Lindsay see how her life was spiraling downwards and mostly because she was, as she puts it too, surrounded by bad people. This is something that Mr. Lohan has repeatedly insisted on, though Lindsay herself often said all ties with her father had been severed many years ago.
