Lindsay Lohan’s personal life has been tabloid fodder for the past couple of years, what with a few rehab stints, DUIs, car crashes and rumors about a truly rock’n’roll lifestyle. Now, the actress is speaking out against years of verbal abuse in the media, begging for privacy and respect, and saying that, if only people bothered to see the real her, they would stop making up lies about her.

Speaking with E! Online, Lindsay addresses some of the topics that make most of the headlines in glossy magazines these days, from her bitter and violent rows with lover Samantha Ronson, to her spending her money like crazy and running into debt, and her addictions. As regards this last thing, Lohan stresses, she does not lie, drink or do drugs, just to set the record straight.

“I don’t drink, I don’t do drugs and I don’t lie. I love to act and write and be creative and I want to help people by playing characters that can send a positive message out to whomever may need it.” Lindsay tells the aforementioned source. That much attention focused solely on her personal life is also what costs her job offers, the star believes. “If people would just leave my personal life alone – because it’s really not that interesting – then I could land a great role. But all the sicko fans and the noise is so distracting.” she adds.

The same interview also reveals that Lohan, once a very sought after actress in Hollywood for her potential and dedication, is firmly of the opinion that the bad press is at the root of all evils. Because the papers write bad things about her, people focus on her personal life and she’s not getting the credit she deserves for her acting. Bad press also stands in the way of her seeing her dreams come true, Lohan adds.

“I’d like to have my own charity, do work overseas, be in Oscar-nominated films, write movies, produce movies / shows / videos, design clothes, make music, write books, etc. It’s all possible if people would just stop judging me and accusing me and making me out to be this aloof, spoiled, ungrateful and unprofessional person that I am not and could never be.” the star concludes by saying.
