Valve has announced that those players who only have a Silver Xbox Live membership will be able to take part in multiplayer matches of Left 4 Dead 2, the zombie shooter created by the company, beginning with 5 PM GMT on Friday, January 15 and until the same hour on Sunday, January 18.

Because of the cooperative nature of the game, which pits a team of four survivors against the seemingly endless hordes of the undead, having an Xbox Live Gold membership, which allows over the Net multiplayer is a must to fully enjoy the game.

Offering Silver members a chance to actually see what they are missing will probably draw some of them into getting a Gold paid subscription to continue receiving the same experience. But the big beneficiary will be Left 4 Dead 2 itself, as the profile of the shooter will increase and more players will be temped to pick it up. Until now, the most recent Valve made release racked up more than 2 million copies sold at retail, not counting the number of copies that have been delivered digitally to players through Steam.

Valve is obviously keen on keeping Left 4 Dead 2 in the spotlight. The company has also released a set to Authoring Tools for the PC version of the game, which allows all the interested players to create new experiences and even port maps that were designed for the first title in the series.

Left 4 Dead 2 is also getting a downloadable content pack during the spring of this year in the form of The Passing, which is set to unite the current team of zombapocalypse survivors to those who starred in the first iteration. The DLC pack should introduce new weapons and enemies to use them on as well.
