Samsung Galaxy S, one of the most popular smartphones of the last year, is getting closer and closer to getting a taste of the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

Nothing is official as of yet, but the first signs that Samsung is already testing the new platform version on its devices are emerging.

Apparently, what would be an Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread build for the smartphone leaked into the wild, and is already available for download, the guys over at XDA-Developers report.

According to some of those who already gave it a try, the leaked ROM includes TouchWiz 4, in addition to the new flavor of the OS.

This software is nowhere near a final build, and is suitable mainly for testing purposes, and for unveiling some info on what would Samsung have in store for users with the next upgrade.

Some of the previous rumors on this suggested that Samsung might be set to make the new OS flavor available for its Galaxy S devices starting with this month, but no confirmation on this emerged as of yet.

Considering the fact that Samsung delayed the release of Android 2.2 for its Galaxy S devices for quite a few months, we'll take with a grain of salt the possible availability of a platform upgrade this month.

Not to mention that there still are some handset owners out there who are waiting for the Froyo upgrade to arrive on their phones. We're referring here to US users, who started to receive the Android 2.2 platform version only several weeks ago.

However, since the said Android 2.3.2 ROM leaked for Galaxy S, it becomes clear that Samsung is indeed working on releasing the software for this device, though it remains to be seen when would the company announce something official on it.

We would expect for the handset vendor to make the move only when it's sure that it would manage to meet the release deadline, so as to avoid negative reactions from users.
