Samsung Galaxy S II, the latest Android smartphone from the South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung, which was announced last week during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is now available for pre-order in the UK.

The handset was already listed at online retailers in the country, including Play.com, which shows it as available for pre-order, and which asks £649.99 for it.

The price tag seems to be quite high, especially when compared to what other smartphones in the country are available at.

Not to mention that the same Galaxy S II model (packing 16GB of internal storage space) is rumored to be on its way to the market in Switzerland with a price tag of around €548 (699 CHF) attached to it (about $755).

Play.com also notes that the usual price for this device would be of £679.99, though there are great chances that the actual cost of this smartphone would be lowered even more before it lands on shelves.

As for when that might happen, the online retailer suggests that 31st of March might be the lucky day, though no further confirmation on this emerged for the time being. In Switzerland, the handset might land in May.

On the UK market, the Samsung Galaxy S II is expected to land at various wireless carriers, including Vodafone, which would also carry the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet PC.

The smartphone includes a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus WVGA display, along with a dual core application processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory.

Moreover, the new device would include NFC support, an 8MP photo snapper with 1080p video recording capabilities, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.5mm Jack, Assisted GPS, and more.

The Samsung Galaxy S II runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, measures 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm, and weighs in at 116g. The smartphone can be seen listed at Play.com here.
