14 DAY TRIAL // Larry King and his seventh wife, Shawn Southwick, to whom he’s been married for no less than 13 years, filed for divorce in mid-April, almost within minutes of each other. Days later, the two were in therapy with a marriage counselor to see whether they could do something to save their relationship, prompting speculation they might not go forward with the divorce after all. Two weeks later, the two remain just as undecided, TMZ has learned.
After filing the papers for divorce, Larry and Shawn realized that hadn’t yet exhausted all means to save their marriage, so they asked for another two weeks to see if there was still something to be done. Now, they’re thinking one more week should be enough to help them decide whether the best course of action is staying together or not. All this time, as we also reported, several stories ran in the press on how both Larry and Shawn had been unfaithful during their marriage.
“TMZ has learned Larry King and his wife, Shawn Southwick, are unsure if they should stay married and need more time to decide if they’ll go forward with the divorce. TMZ broke the story that Larry and Shawn each filed divorce papers – within minutes of each other – back on April 14. On April 19 reps for both sides told TMZ the divorce was on hold for 2 weeks while the couple tried working their problems out – among other things, they wanted to hash their conflicts out with a marriage counselor,” TMZ says of the state of affairs in the King household.
“Two weeks have now passed since the divorce was put on hold, but sources directly connected to the situation tell TMZ Larry and Shawn are still undecided and are giving it one more week before deciding whether to pull the plug or reconcile. Divorce papers are still on file,” the same media outlet goes on to say. Indeed, despite bitter allegations made by both sides shortly after papers were filed, Larry and Shawn have remained on very civil terms, having even been photographed kissing and hugging in public.
Last time anything was heard of the divorce, former Little League coach Hector Penate went to the tabloids to give his full account of the affair he had with Shawn. As per his own words, Larry knew of his wife’s infidelity and silently approved of it because he too was seeing his sister-in-law.
