14 DAY TRIAL // CNN talk show legend Larry King is going through the eighth divorce in his life, having just filed papers citing “irreconcilable differences” between him and his seventh wife, Shawn Southwick (King was married twice to the same woman), TMZ reports. Moments after King filed the papers, Southwick also did the same, on the same grounds, the same media outlet says. However, this divorce will probably turn nasty.
“TMZ has learned Larry King just filed for divorce from his wife Shawn Southwick – the 8th time King’s pulled the plug on a marriage. In the divorce papers, filed moments ago in LA County Superior Court, Larry blames the split on ‘irreconcilable differences.’ Larry, 76, and Shawn, 50, were married back in 1997 – they have two sons together. Back in 2007, Shawn had bragged about being the only one of Larry’s wives to have made it into ‘the two digits.’ She is the 7th woman to marry King,” TMZ reports.
The same media outlet also informs that Shawn might have filed for separation out of her conviction that King was being unfaithful to her – with her sister, nonetheless. Apparently, during their marriage, Larry moved a lot of property (including their Hollywood Hills mansion) on her name as a sign of “guilt” and Shawn is now asking the judge to give her what is rightfully hers, it has emerged. King, on the other hand, plans to have all contracts and agreements signed during their marriage annulled.
Shannon Engemann, Shawn’s sister, says for TMZ that she and Larry King did not have an affair, no matter how the scorned wife might claim otherwise. Admittedly, the National Enquirer is now running a story claiming it has proof of the affair, which has prompted Shannon to defend herself in the media – and this should be the last thing she should worry about, Shawn told her in a couple of threatening phone calls.
“This is so ludicrous. She’s singling me out, but Larry has been nothing but generous to our entire family, including me. Shawn has left me threatening messages. […] I’m tired for taking the rap for things. I did not have an affair with Larry. He’s been like a father to me. I have a date tonight and I’m not going to worry about it. I love my sister. What’s happening is not my fault,” Shannon explains in a statement to TMZ. As of now, Larry King has been unavailable for comment.
