14 DAY TRIAL // The other day, Larry King filed for divorce from his wife of 13 years, Shawn Southwick. Hours later, she too filed the necessary papers, with both citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause for the separation, while speculation picked up that she believed he was being unfaithful to her. If that be the case, King might live to be sorry for it since, as it turns out, he and Shawn never signed a prenup, TMZ reports.
According to reliable reports, Larry King did not have his attorneys draw up a prenup before tying the knot with Shawn 13 years ago, despite the fact that he was – and continues to be – a very wealthy man. Not even his previous 7 divorces and 6 marriages (he married and divorced the same woman twice) made him consider the possibility of having to go through another such procedure again, which might cost him half his estate.
“TMZ has learned Larry King does not have a prenup with estranged wife Shawn Southwick. Sources tell us Larry – who was married 7 times before tying the knot with Shawn – did not demand a prenup. As one source close to the situation tells TMZ, ‘She is a tall, good-looking blonde and that pretty much explains it’,” TMZ writes. Moreover, throughout their marriage, King moved several big properties on Shawn’s name, and she’s now asking to be given what is rightfully hers.
There is, of course, also the question of how much money the CNN personality makes – and he makes a lot, just in case there was anyone left wondering. “Larry’s net worth is reportedly estimated at $144 million. He’s in the middle of a CNN contract reportedly worth $56 million over 4 years. In California, earnings accumulated during a marriage are split 50/50. Shawn and Larry have been married for nearly 13 years. Ouch,” TMZ goes on to say.
According to the same source, Shawn filed for divorce because she was convinced King was cheating on her, with her own sister nonetheless. For about 5 years, Larry King reportedly showered his sister-in-law with very expensive gifts (including a $160,000 car and Cartier diamond jewelry), which, understandably, prompted Shawn to conclude that he was keeping her sister as a mistress.
