Eidos has turned its head towards Nintendo's motion sensitive controller

Boy, are Nintendo fans screaming right about now! Eidos has just announced that Tomb Raider Anniversary is in the works for the Wii gaming system from Nintendo. That's right, Lara Croft will do her acrobatics and double pistol shooting controlled by a Wiimote now. I hope they make it compatible with the classic controller too though.

Anyway, Eidos Interactive is one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software and here is their confirmation that the title is going even more multiplatform than before:

"The Nintendo Wii is a hugely innovative games console and we wanted to make a special version of Anniversary to appeal to Wii owners," said Kathryn Clements, Senior Brand Manager, Tomb Raider. "The Wiimote & Nunchuck controller allows Wii gamers to control Lara in brand new, unique ways, and there are plenty of new features, to be revealed soon, which will ensure Anniversary really hits the spot - literally."

Well, yeah of course Lara will be controlled totally differently but we knew that already. With Tomb Raider finesse in movement of the character is at its peak. Further more, while aiming is done automatically in all titles of the series, walking on thin ropes or grabbing an almost nonexistent edge will surely be a challenge, if that control scheme isn't tweaked right. But I'm sure they know what they're doing over there.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary will be released on PlayStation2 and PC on June 1st. The PSP port will follow shortly after. Either Nintendo or Eidos will be making an official announcement of the game's release for the Wii platform. Although the developer assures that the game is well into development, a release date hasn't been confirmed. Maybe the official announcement will reveal it.
