Korean handset manufacturer LG and National Geographic have just announced a partnership that will bring 3D content to users.

According to LG, all content will be shot with the Optimus 3D, the world’s first glasses-free full 3D smartphone with the tri-dual architecture, by several famous photographers.

Under agreement, LG will provide photographers with Optimus 3D smartphones in order to create National Geographic's first 3D image and video content in its history.

With LG Optimus 3D’s advanced technology features, including video stabilization and misalignment correction functions, National Geographic photographers will be able to capture high-definition 3D content in a variety of locations.

For over a century, National Geographic has been the preeminent institution for world-class wildlife, landscape, travel and lifestyle photography. To have six of National Geographic’s photographers showcase the power of Optimus 3D’s imaging capabilities is a true honor and a significant moment in the acceptance of 3D technology in a portable device such as a smartphone,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

In this regard, National Geographic selected six award-winning artists from around the globe to capture images with the LG Optimus 3D smartphone.

The staff selected comprises four photographers and two videographers who will be able to showcase their work at this year's IFA trade fair, in Berlin, Germany from September 2-7.

We are very excited to work with LG to take advantage of the latest developments in 3D content creation. By putting the LG Optimus 3D in these artists’ hands, they will be able to truly show their world as they see it, in full 3D,” said Maura Mulvihill, vice president at National Geographic Image Collection, Sales and Assignment.

The six members of the staff selected by National Geographic are: Steven Alvarez, photojournalist, Brian Skerry, photojournalist, Bryan Harvey, photojournalist, Justin Guariglia, photographer/contributing editor, Peter Hutchens, photojournalist and Steve Winter, photojournalist.
