LG India has just announced that the Optimus 3D Android-based smartphone will be available in the country beginning next month for no less than Rs. 37,000 (about $805).

Although the phone's suggested retail price seems pretty steep, there's a high chance that some of the local retailers will offer it for much less.

Known as one of the biggest emerging smartphone markets in the world, India received its fair share of Android devices, but for some unknown reasons the flagship devices continue to be overpriced.

All in all, Android fans living in India who afford to purchase the Optimus 3D will probably be able to get it for a bit cheaper a while after the official launch.

The LG Optimus 3D is super-smartphone which gives our consumer the pleasure of 3D without the special glasses. Its exceptional features combined with super computing capabilities will add a new dimension to the smartphone experience,” said Vishal Chopra, Business Group Head, Mobile Communications, LG.

The Optimus 3D is LG's first 3D smartphone and one of the first available on the market, along with HTC's EVO 3D.

The handset is equipped with a fast dual-core and dual channel ARM Cortex-A9 TI OMAP4430 processor clocked at 1GHz and complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 GPU.

"The smart consumers will now have the power to create, view & share real-life 3D content and the power to explore the world of unlimited possibilities," added Chopra.

Furthermore, the phone is powered by Google's Android 2.2 (Froyo), but an upgrade to Gingerbread will be delivered in October.

In addition, it packs 512 MB RAM and 8 GB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

One of the strong points of the Optimus 3D is the brilliant 4.3-inch 3D LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

LG's flagship Android smartphone offers users the possibility to enjoy 3D content without the need of glasses, and is one of the first phones to feature 3D technology.

It is also worth mentioning that the Optimus 3D comes with dual 5-megapixel stereoscopic 3D cameras, so users will be able to capture crystal-clear 3D images and record 720p HD 3D videos.
