South Korean-based mobile phone maker LG Electronics announced recently that it managed to top 20 million touchscreen mobile phones sold all around the world, only two years after launching its first such device on the market. Since the release of its LG-KE850 Prada Phone in March 2007, the company succeeded in setting record sales for the devices that featured touch-enabled displays.

According to the phone maker, the popularity of its touchscreen handsets has been rising impressively fast lately, as it managed to sell ten million units until November 2008, and ten million more since then. Moreover, the company says, the fact that it has unveiled a wide range of touchscreen devices that are able to fulfill the needs of different types of consumers also helped it reach the record sales.

In addition, the phone maker shares, the development process of touchscreen handsets was mainly focused on creating devices that offered the most to users, as the company was focused on understanding what consumers needed and wanted, so that it would be able to come to the market with mobile phones that included all the necessary functionalities.

Some of the most popular touchscreen devices from LG are the LG Viewty (LG-KU990), which sold more than seven million units since it had been launched back in October 2007, or the LG Cookie (LG-KP500), which was sold in more than three million since launched seven months ago. According to the company, LG Cookie's performance on the market has helped it rise its market share from 14 percent to 20 percent.

Another handset that LG expects to prove a great selling device is the LG Arena (LG-KM900), which, the company states, has been sold in more than 300,000 units during the first four weeks since it was launched on the market. The mobile phone comes with a new user interface from the maker, 3D S-Class, which has been also included in another newly announced device, the LG Viewty Smart (LG-GC900).
