Following the success of the Shine

After its recent success with, well, all of its products, LG has announced that it may consider launching another groundbreaking model later this year.

This follows LG Shine's record breaking sales number of over one million units. The company recorded massive sales with its Chocolate phone as well, and the Prada, that was recently released, is expected to be at least equally successful.

"LG will continue...introducing ten-million-seller models every year," said Skott Ahn, president and chief executive of LG's mobile communication business, during a news conference also marking the ten million unit sales milestone of the company's blockbuster Chocolate model.

Throughout the past year as well as this one LG won several design awards with its products and has also won a contest, organized by a consortium of 12 mobile operators, to produce an affordable 3G handset for the mass-market. According to Ahn, the company now hopes to sell a 'mid-single digit number' of a million units.

Ahn also added that "sales could rise to ten million units if circumstances permit." The new 3G handset is expected to sport a price tag of around $100, which is an exceptionally low price for a device of this type. By making more affordable models, LG is hoping to boost the sales of 3G-enabled handsets.

In the meantime, the Shine is scheduled to debut on the US market through Verizon wireless, while the Prada has already been introduced in the UK and will also be released in Korea during May. LG is currently looking closely at three to five models, aiming to determine its next blockbuster, that the manufacturer is planning to launch during the second half of the year.
