Japanese mobile phone users should be able to purchase a new tablet PC in the country starting with March 31st, wireless carrier NTT DOCOMO announced today, pointing at the availability of LG Optimus Pad on its airwaves starting with that date.

The mobile phone carrier announced the upcoming availability of this tablet PC on its network a while ago, but it was only today that it committed to a specific release date for the device.

NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today that it will sell the Optimus Pad L-06C tablet through all DOCOMO sales channels nationwide in Japan beginning March 31,” the wireless carrier announced.

Unfortunately, the wireless services provider did not offer specific info on the pricing of the new Android-based device on its airwaves.

However, the company announced that the recent earthquake that struck Japan's shores would result in the delay of this device through some channels.

“The Optimus Pad L-06C is powered by the Android 3.0 operating system optimized for tablets. The model, which only weighs 620 grams, features a high-resolution 8.9-inch display and dynamic stereo speakers for “mobile-theater” experiences,” NTT DOCOMO stated.

For those out of the loop, we should note that LG unveiled the new device at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, when it announced that T-Mobile would receive it as the G-Slate.

Packing a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 application processor inside, the new device would offer great performance capabilities, complemented by support for 3D content.

The tablet PC arrives on shelves with dual 5-megapixel cameras on the back with 3D capture capabilities, and support for 1080p recording.

The Android-based tablet PC headed for NTT DOCOMO, model L-06C, would sport the same 8.9-inch 1280 x 768 pixel touchscreen display as the G-Slate, as well as support for various applications available for download via the Android Market.

The new device would also sport 3G connectivity and GPS receiver, as well as support for various Google Mobile Services.
