Canadian mobile phone carrier Telus is gearing up for the release of a new device powered by Google's Android operating system in the near future, namely the LG Optimus Black Skype Edition. The new mobile phone was already listed on the carrier's website in the coming soon section, although no specific info on when it would arrive or on its pricing emerged.

The new device is the same handset that was unveiled to the world in January during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but with a few new features added into the mix.

This specific handset flavor comes pre-loaded with a Skype application that would offer users the possibility to easily download the Skype client from the Android Market.

“Change the way you communicate on the Skype Mobile enabled LG Optimus Black. Powered by Android 2.2,” the operator notes on its website.

Not only would the new LG Optimus Black Skype Edition be optimized for the said application, but it would also provide 60 minutes of Skype calling to all those who will purchase it, the wireless carrier states.

Here's what the LG Optimus Black Skype Edition has to offer to Telus' users:

- Take advantage of low international rates when calling from Skype to landline and mobile numbers - Unlimited worldwide Skype to Skype calls and IM - Charge Skype credits right to your TELUS account - 2MP front facing and 5MP back facing cameras - See pictures, videos and web pages in stunning clarity on LG's new NOVA display - Extremely slim and stylish at 9.2 mm thin and only 109g in weight

As stated above, the handset sports the same specifications as the mobile phone that was released on shelves in other markets around the world without the Skype feature.

It sports a bright 4-inch NOVA touchscreen display, a fast 1GHz application processor, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with flash on the back, and a 2MP camera on the front for video calling.

Moreover, it offers support for 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of storage space, and a 1500 mAh battery packed inside.

You can have a look at the new mobile phone on Telus' website here. Stay tuned for more info on its availability and pricing.
