South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has announced the upcoming release of two new high-end smartphones on the market in Singapore, namely the LG Optimus 2X and Optimus Black, both of which run under Google's Android operating system. During an event that marked the launch of the two new devices on the local market, the handset vendor also unveiled the price tags at which these phones would become available for purchase in Singapore, namely S$888 for the Optimus 2X, and S$768 for Optimus Black.

The LG Optimus 2X was the first smartphone in the world to be unveiled with a dual-core application processor inside, and with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board.

The mobile phone packs a dual-core nVidia Tegra 2 processor inside, which was clocked in at 1GHz, as well as a 4-inch screen (800 x 480 pixels), an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and HD video recording, and a 1.3-megapixel front camera to enable video calling.

Moreover, the new device includes 8GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded through a microSD card slot, as well as 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth capabilities, GPS receiver, and LG's own UI thrown over the Android platform.

Reportedly, the smartphone should become available in the country later during this month, at the aforementioned price tag.

The second device, Optimus Black, was unveiled in early January at the Consumer Electronics Show in las Vegas as the first device to pack a NOVA display, with increased brightness - 700 nits.

Also based on the Android 2.2 Froyo OS, the handset comes with a 1GHz processor inside a slim design (9.2mm), built-in support for Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth connectivity, microSD card slot, and more.

The LG Optimus Black is expected to become available for purchase in Singapore starting with April 2011, and should be priced at S$768, which should make it quite affordable.
