Sprint introduced the LG Marquee Android-based smartphone last year in October and seemed to have some mild success with the device. This, or the other way around, as the smartphone will soon be available at Boost Mobile.

Sprint’s brand of wireless prepay service, Boost Mobile will start selling the LG Marquee on January 23 for $279.99 (215 EUR), excluding taxes.

Previously available only on a two-year term, Boost Mobile customers will be able to pair the smartphone with the carrier’s no-contract $55 (40 EUR) Android Monthly Unlimited plan with Shrinkage, which will net them unlimited nationwide talk, text messaging, Web, email and calls to 411.

Initially, the LG Marquee will be available online and at Boost Mobile’s exclusive retail stores, as well as select independent wireless dealer locations across the country. However, the smartphone will hit shelves at additional retailers by the end of the February.

LG Marquee is a mid-budget smartphone that runs Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform with Optimus UI and Gesture UI on top. The handset is available at U.S. Cellular as well, but under a different name, LG Majestic.

The device features an ultraslim design and is only 9mm thick, yet it packs a decent range of specs that recommends it as a good choice for Android fans.

The smartphone comes with a large 4-inch NOVA display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

It is also equipped with a 1 GHz single core processor, 4GB onboard memory, 512MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB memory card included).

We are thrilled to partner with LG to add one of the best-kept secrets in the Android smartphone category to Boost Mobile’s device family. The LG Marquee demonstrates the growing evolution of no-contract device options and pairs perfectly with Boost Mobile’s award-winning monthly plans where the longer you stay, the less you pay,” said Andre Smith, vice president-Boost Mobile.
