New LG slider

Alltel Wireless will apparently bring a new LG phone to its subscribers: LG Glimmer, a slider that looks to be a hybrid between LG Viewty and LG Shine.

LG Glimmer is a CDMA device that measures 4.0 x 2.05 x 0.59 inches (101.6 x 52 x 14.9 millimeters), weighs 4.0 ounces (113 grams) and offers a 2.8 inch touchscreen display with a 240 x 400 pixel resolution and 262,000 colors. Furthermore, the handset brings a 2 Megapixel camera with flash, digital zoom and video recording at a maximum resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, high-speed EVDO data transmission, stereo Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0, Music Player with customizable equalizer (supports MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+ ), Playlist Management, Background Music Mode, 3D Graphics for Gaming, Airplane Mode, 128 MB built-in memory and microSD card support for up to 4 GB. The phone's battery is a 800 mAh one that should provide a talk-time of about 3.5 hours and a stand-by time of up to 7 days.

So, after LG Shine, we now have LG Glimmer. Does this mean we'll get to see other names of this kind from the South Korean manufacturer? A LG Sparkle, a LG Glow or, perhaps, a LG Blaze? Might be.

For the moment, there are no details about Glimmer's price or release date, but it shouldn't be long until it will hit the market. We can't say if the handset will also be available via other US carriers or in other countries. However, by the way the phone looks, I'm sure many operators will want to have it in their line-ups.

Focusing on small and medium-sized cities, Alltel is currently the largest US mobile carrier in terms of network coverage and the fifth in terms of subscribers number (more than 12 million). The release of LG Glimmer will not bring throngs of new customers, but it's still a good move from the carrier and many existent subscribers will probably be happy about it.
