According to the latest news on the Web, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is set to start shipping its LG GD910 watch phone on the European market as soon as next month. The device will come to European users on the airwaves of Orange, and it is expected to become available in Asia, Middle East, Australia and Latin America later this year.

The main selling point of the LG GD910 is the wrist watch shape it comes in, complemented by the 7.2Mbps HSDPA capabilities and the video calling functionality, which, even if it is not very practical, is still a nice feature on such a piece of hardware. In addition, the phone also comes with a 1.43-inch touchscreen display, and TTS (Text To Speech) capabilities.

LG considers the new device capable of opening a new era in the mobile phone segment, as it is one of the first wearable handsets to become commercially available, while including a wide range of features in such a small case.

According to the mobile phone maker, the LG GD910 will show a clock when not used as a phone, and has been packed with functionalities such as voice recognition, waterproof capabilities, Bluetooth connectivity, MP3 player, speakerphone, alarm, calendar, and 3G connectivity. At the same time, the device is meant to show to the world LG's commitment to drive innovation in the mobile phone industry.

As many of you might already know, the LG GD910 was unveiled for the first time in December last year, and was officially introduced at CES 2009 in January, yet back then it seemed a rather distant next-generation device and not a phone that would actually hit the shelves in the middle of this year. For what it's worth, the handset looks great and should see a lot of traction on the market, at least from enthusiasts.
