LG Electronics, a leading designer in the mobile communications, announced that it would officially unveil its market-ready Touch Watch Phone, the LG-GD910, which boasts the 3G Video Telephony (VT) service and GSM Quadband Network capabilities. The device comes as a successor of the prototype the company, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last year, yet it brings forward a few innovations, such as a full touchscreen interface, 3G capabilities, and video calling.

“Our new 3G Touch Watch Phone is stylish, sophisticated, and the height of technology, but it’s also undeniably fun. How else can you reenact those scenes from your favorite sci-fi or spy movie?” Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said.

“The Watch Phone also demonstrates LG’s technological leadership, proving that we can bring all the components in today’s most advanced mobile phones down to a very small scale.”

The new LG-GD910 might just look like a high-end watch, especially given its specific design meant to make the device comfortable to wear on any occasion. The phone features a curved, tempered glass face and a high-quality metal casing, while measuring some mere 13.9mm in thickness. This device would be the world's first touch watch phone to sport 7.2 Mbps 3G HSDPA compatibility, so as to offer high-speed data transmission, along with video phone calls through its built-in camera.

“This Watch Phone is the result of a great deal of research and development, something that is very important to us at LG. We will continue to invest in creating innovative new products and technologies like this, and setting trends in the mobile phone industry,” Dr. Ahn added.

The functionality of the Watch Phone is meant to fulfill any of the users' needs. Sending text messages, making phone calls, as well as keeping accurate time, these are all present with the device. In addition, the 1.43-inch screen and LG’s intuitive Flash Interface offer users a simple way to operate it. The new LG-GD910 also comes with voice recognition features, stereo Bluetooth, Text to Speech (TTS), built-in speaker for playing back music files, complemented by a large phonebook and scheduler.

The company announced that the Watch Phone would be showcased at CES this year, while it is set to enter production in the second half of the same year. Moreover, LG also revealed that the phone was expected to hit the European market within this twelvemonth, making it the first such device to become available for acquisition.
