The mobile phone runs Android 2.3, features a sliding QWERTY

A new mobile phone running under Google's Android operating system will arrive on shelves at Verizon Wireless before the end of this month, namely the LG Enlighten.

Starting with September 22nd, users will be able to purchase the new device via the carrier's website, while and through all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores starting with the 29th of the month.

The handset will feature a price tag of $79.99 (about 59 Euros) with the signing of a two-year contract agreement and after a $50 mail in rebate. The MIR will be delivered to users in the form of a debit card.

“Customers will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan beginning at $39.99 (around 29.32 Euros) for 450 minutes per month and a smartphone data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data,” the carrier explained.

Users interested in the new device will be able to opt for a Verizon Wireless Mobile Hotspot data plan starting at $20 for 2 GB, the wireless carrier also explained.

“Powered by Android 2.3, LG Enlighten is ideal for messaging, email and apps in a slim and affordable smartphone. Customers can stay connected and up-to-date on news and their social life on the nation’s most reliable network,” Verizon notes.

The new device arrives on shelves with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display (320 x 480 pixels), an 800 MHz application processor, and a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto focus and video recording on the back.

Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity (b/g/n) were included into the mix too, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (a 2GB card comes in the box).

The new device also sports a Full QWERTY keyboard, 3G Mobile Hotspot capabilities so that users can connect a number of up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the carrier's network, and support for Adobe Flash 10 for a great experience while on the go.

It also offers support for various Google Mobile Services, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Search and Google Maps, and access to the Android Market, so that users can download games and applications.
