Coming in 2010

DJ Hero seems to have embodied a lot of things that were wrong with publisher Activision in 2009. The game was bundled with an expensive piece of hardware, the turntable, had a high price tag, lacked a clear focus and took some time to learn.

It did not manage to reach the same sales levels as Guitar Hero but it appears that Activision is committed to turn the spinoff into a success and will spare no resource to make DJ Hero 2, which will appear in time for the holiday season of 2010, a success.

Bobby Kotick, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Activision, told Game Informer in an interview that “if you're going to make a commitment to doing something original, the odds are that you're not going to get it right on the first chance.” He said that developers like Neversoft, Treyarch, Raven and even Infinity Ward needed some time before creating their best works.

Moving his attention to DJ Hero itself, Kotick stated that “I think DJ Hero is a really innovative product. I can't wait for you to see next year's. That's the thing; we're sticking with it. We'll stick with it and get it right. But it's going to be less games, better games. That's our strategy.”

DJ Guetta, who was featured in a downloadable content pack for the first game, confirmed that he was working closely with Activision on DJ Hero 2. It will probably be released for a variety of home console platforms and Activision might also be interested in handheld versions of the product, if the second installment proves more successful than the first one. It will be nice to see whether the publisher will keep the peripheral included last year or whether it plans to put out a new type of turntable for DJ Hero 2.
