More and better music

Music is all the rage when it comes to gaming with titles like The Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 performing well last year even if analysts are saying that the market is currently oversaturated. DJ Hero was not a hit on the same level but Activision is so keen on putting together new franchises that it appears to have started production on a sequel even before sales numbers for the first release were in.

David Guetta, a real life DJ who is set to contribute music to the franchise, has told specialized site Kelowna.com that “I think it's amazing, this game, and I'm going to work on the No. 2 version.” His tracks are already offered as downloadable content for the original release.

Hints that DJ Hero will be getting a new game as early as 2010 arrived earlier during last year as Dan Rosensweig, who is the Chief Executive Officer in charge of the Guitar Hero franchise at publisher Activision, clearly stated that “there will be more DJ Hero.”

The new title will probably offer more tracks and will seek to upgrade the actual DJing experience. It's not clear whether another peripheral will be included, given the high price of such a package. The first videogame in what Activision hopes will be a successful series, as Guitar Hero has not sold very well, failing to actually crack the top ten of sales charts.

The blame for the rather cold reception has been attributed to the pretty high price of the peripheral included, the unfortunate release date and to the mix of genres the game offered, which targeted a wide array of music lovers but failed to offer enough content to actually raise their interest enough to pick up DJ Hero in its first incarnation.
