In the United Kingdom

Although some thought that, after its initial record-breaking debut week, Modern Warfare 2 would quickly lose its Steam and slide down the sales charts, the first-person shooter that was created by Infinity Ward and published by Activision seems to be determined to finish 2009 at the top of the United Kingdom videogame chart, fending quite determined challenges from other AAA titles like New Super Mario Bros Wii and Assassin's Creed 2.

With Modern Warfare 2 finishing another week at number one and adding it to its collection of achievements, the second spot went to FIFA 10, the football-simulation title from EA Sports, which managed to climb up three places from number five, as players witnessed more and more exciting Premiere League games and wanted to replicate the feats of their favorite teams on their gaming platforms.

The third spot this week went to Wii Sports Resort, which is also climbing one place, as some gamers are probably preparing to lose some weight after a gluttonous holiday period. Assassin's Creed 2 proves that free running in Venice is still in vogue by managing to take the fifth place in the chart.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games from SEGA sits at number six, up one place, and managing to sell better than New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo Wii, which slides down to seven, despite the very positive reaction it has received from critics. Forza Motorsport 3 from Microsoft has managed to gain one place and sits at eight followed closely by another racing title of a very different nature, Mario Kart Wii from Nintendo.

Left 4 Dead 2 is also staging a bit of a comeback and takes the final place in the top ten. Jame Cameron's Avatar: The Game from Ubisoft has not managed to break into the top ten, despite the glowing reviews of its film companion.
