Koolance, one of the handful of companies that develops and sells high-performance water cooling solutions, has just announced that they are developing a waterblock to fit the AMD Radeon HD 6990 graphics that should be available by the end of the week.

The new waterblock is called the VID-AR699 and it utilizes a high-performance microfin (0.5mm) design made of solid copper with anti-corrosive nickel plating.

According to Koolance, the block uses standard G 1/4 BSP nozzle threading and is compatible with all the HD 6990 solutions that use AMD's reference layout as well as with CrossFireX configurations.

Additional connect nozzles are required for such a setup to work, but Koolance has these available in its online store.

Pricing is not available yet, but the VID-AR699 product page already went live on the company's website and more details should be available by the end of the week when the first stock is expected to arrive.

Koolance is the second company to announce a waterblock for the Radeon HD 6990 as EK is also building such a solution, dubbed the EK-FC6990.

However, Koolance's waterblock may end up as the first such product to reach the market since EK isn't expecting its creation to arrive to market in less than 10 days from now.

The HD 6990 is AMD's fastest graphics card to date as it packs together two Cayman XT cores on the same PCB and features 3072 stream processors, 192 texturing units, 64 ROPs and dual 256-bit wide memory buses connected to 4GB of GDDR5 memory.

The cores are clocked at 830MHz, but the card also features a special switch that enables users to run the card into the so-called AUSUM mode that overclocks the GPUs to 880MHz.

This raises the 375W TDP of the HD 6990 to about 450W and makes the card output a full 225W of heat back into the system's case, so a water-cooling setup would definitely come as a nice addition to the card. (via XtremeSystems)
