Legendary video game developer Hideo Kojima has offered the first official information on his Project Ogre video games, saying that the experience will use the actual mythological monster with that name rather than simply hinting at its monstrous nature.

Via Twitter, where a lot of high profile developers chose to engage their target audience, the Japanese developer, who leads the Kojima Productions development team, has offered a message in his native language that says Project Ogre will use an actual mythological monster rather than having the nature of one or bearing his likeness.

The ogre use probably means that Kojima is using a fantasy universe for the game, which is quite a big move for a developer who tends to focus on a mix of military and science fiction.

The developer offered no more information on the game although a number of his fans have asked him direct questions via Twitter.

Kojima Productions confirmed that it was working on a Project Ogre video game but offered no clear details on what platforms it might arrive on or when players might get a look at it.

The game is believed to use an open-world structure, another departure for Kojima, and will deliver an experience that is different from the Metal Gear Solid series.

The 2012 project for Kojima Productions is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, where the company plays a supervising role and Team Ninja is handling the core development process.

The new game will feature Raiden as the main character and will follow his transformation between the look he had in Metal Gear Solid 2 and the fourth game in the series.

The game is expected to have a bigger action focus than other Metal Gear video games and will abandon the stealth elements that have been linked to the Solid name.

A new stealth-based title might also be in development.
