Legendary video game developer Hideo Kojima has told the most recent issues of the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that a playable version of the upcoming Metal Gear Rising video game will be playable at the E3 2012 trade event, which suggests that the team working on the game is on track to launch it during 2012.

Initially Konami and Kojima were stated to be working on Metal Gear Solid: Rising, a game that would use the familiar mechanics of the series but would make Raiden the main character, detailing how he came to acquire his unique cyborg form seen in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

But the development process lagged and Konami made the decision to hand over development duties for the game to Platinum Games while putting Kojima Productions in a position to oversee the video game.

The renamed Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is set to have more of a focus on action and will benefit from the experience that Platinum Games gained from developing Bayonetta.

The Chief Executive Officer at Platinum, Tatsuya Minami, has told Famitsu that the team was initially interested in keeping the stealth mechanics that Kojima wanted for the series but has since then found that they did not fit with the new nature of the main character.

The development team plans to focus on Raiden and his newfound abilities in the gameplay while the story of the game will explain his past as a violent child soldier and the way he now views the world and the enemies he battles.

It is not clear how prominent the cut and take mechanics that Kojima initially designed will be in the Platinum Games version of the game.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is set to be launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft before the end of 2012.
