Well, well, looks like Kingston's keeping itself pretty busy this time of year, its main area of focus being, apparently, that of SSDs, where they've announced plenty of interesting things, with a whole lot more to come in the near future. So, after checking out that new 96GB, improved SSDNow V+100 model yesterday and reading about the Trim-Off performance delivered by Kingston's solid-state drives last week, it's now time to talk about some other new products, this time apparently pertaining to the more mainstream-oriented V series. So, while browsing the KingstonSSDNOW Facebook page, we've come across this very interesting wall posting: Exclusive Glimpse: SSDNow V Series--In about a week we'll be launching the next-gen version and think you're gonna love the increased capacity, improved performance…and did we mention--an even better price?!? So, if you’re looking to make the move to SSD, watch this space to help you decide and get even more SSDNow goodness. Details coming out Nov 8th.” Understandably, we were quite excited about this announcement, given the increasing popularity of SSDs in the storage segment, as well as Kingston's top market positioning. However, we've also immediately started wondering just what this next V series version will bring about, in terms of storage and performance. I mean sure, Kingston says that the drives will provide “increased capacity” and “improved performance”, but they provide absolutely no actual details on this topics. If we were to make a guess, we'd dare to say that Kingston might go as far as adopting the brand-new Sandforce SF-2000 controllers, which are already very well-known for their impressive capabilities and are being adopted on quite a large scale throughout this particular market segment. Or who knows, maybe the external enclosures typically bundled with the Kingston SSD drives will be pushed upwards to USB 3.0 connectivity, thus making them future proof. Of course, this is just speculation for the time being, and we'll have to wait five more days before being able to find out officially what the new V line of Kingston SSDNow drives will offer.
