It is a high capacity SSD, but unfortunately it is slow and costs almost 1,500 USD

Kingmax appears to be selling a high-capacity SMU25 Client Pro SSD, as it was spotted in Tokyo's Akihabara shopping district. The KM01TBSMI25 SSD packs 1 TB of unformatted capacity, but that is not very impressive when you simply read the performance specifications on the box.

Capacity and somewhat low price was traded off for performance.

Built using the popular 2.5-inch SATA form-factor, the KM01TBSMI25 uses the slow SATA 3 Gb/s interface, and provides sequential transfer rates of 250 MB/s when reading and of 200 MB/s when writing.

The drive has support for most modern SSD features, including Global Wear Leveling, TRIM, NCQ, 40-bit BCH ECC.

It comes with a 1.2 million hours MTBF and the price is not something you might consider a bargain: 1,500 USD.

That would be around 1,150 EUR for the European customers, but we actually expect it to be closer to the 1,000 EUR mark, as nothing is more expensive than what’s being sold in Japan.
