When People magazine struck a deal with reality star Kim Kardashian for the rights to her engagement and upcoming wedding to Kris Humphries, it was thrilled. Now, editors for the mag have come to regret the decision, PageSix writes.

It’s not uncommon for celebrity publications to fork up the big bucks for a story or rights over a story, especially an engagement, birth or wedding.

However, when it got out that People paid about $1 million for the rights to the story of Kim’s engagement, even some of her biggest fans believed she was paid too much.

People soon got to find that out on its own, when the engagement issue came out – and had truly disappointing sales.

“People magazine is paying Kim Kardashian more than $1 million for exclusive coverage of her engagement and wedding, sources told PageSix – but now the mag’s editors are concerned that the public fascination over the curvy beauty may be waning,” the e-zine says.

Kim got about $300,000 for the above-mentioned issue of People, in which she talked about the night Kris proposed to her and offered all the details on her humongous $2 million diamond ring, but she was promised another $1 million for the wedding.

The editors at People are now sorely regretting the decision because of how the first issue with Kim sold, which makes them believe that interest in the reality star is fading fast.

“People’s Kim engagement cover sold well, but did not as well as they hoped. Over a million copies were sold, which is good but not their best. And when you spend that much on a cover story, you expect it to sell,” a spy tells PageSix.

“Some worry they’re now stuck with a big bill for the wedding. Some editors think the cheating scandal and the over-the-top ring and wedding could be a turn-off,” adds another insider.

Of course, the fact that People didn’t pay Kim for the exclusive rights is probably also contributing to the dwindling interest in the engagement and the wedding: ever since she announced she was getting married, Kim has been literally in every glossy in the US and abroad.
