A developer working on Killzone 3, the first person shooter from Guerrilla Games and Sony, has stated that the new title will focus more on delivering more information on the Helghast culture, with the aim of making players more immersed in the universe of the game and better connected with its narrative.

Steven Ter Heide, who is the senior producer working on Killzone 3, has told Eurogamer that, “A lot of people commented on the Helghast culture, and they want to know what their planet is like and what their life is like. So we’re focusing in Killzone 3 more on the Helghast side of things. There will be cut-scenes from the Helghast perspective.”

He said that the team has “taken cues from, we think, a couple of guys who did a good job with storytelling: the guys from Naughty Dog with Uncharted 2. We said, why did people pick up on that? What makes that storytelling so good? They don’t take themselves too seriously. You’re allowed to have fun.”

Guerrilla Games has already stated that they are aiming to lighten up Killzone a little, feeling that the second installment of the series was much too serious for its own good.

Ter Heide also addressed the issues of controller based lag, saying that the team is working hard to eliminate it and that Killzone 2 had issues in that area that will not appear in the new title.

Killzone 3 is a big game for both Guerrilla and for Sony, with the companies aiming to introduce both support for motion tracking through the PlayStation Move and to deliver the whole experience in full 3D.

Killzone 3 is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and Sony has confirmed that it will arrive on February 22, 2011 in the United States, with an European date not yet set in stone.
