Sony, as the publisher, and Guerrilla Games, as the developer, have announced that on January 27 the PlayStation Home social space, available only on the PlayStation 3 console, is set to be turned into a full blown Killzone 3 promotional area, with Home the last remaining area that the ISA controls against the onslaught of the Helghast forces.

The Killzone 3 theme will be best visible in Central Plaza Defender, a first-person shooter game that will allow the player, represented as his avatar, to take on waves of Helghast enemies, including airships, ground based vehicles and, of course, large numbers of infantry.

Players will also need to collect repair kits, medical first aid kits and ammunition in order to survive the onslaught.

Those who play Central Plaza Defender well will get access to rewards that can be used in PlayStation Home, and those who get through all three levels of the game will also receive Unlock Points, which can then be taken into Killzone 3 to open up access to weapons and to abilities that are linked to the multiplayer side of the game.

Central Plaza will also include a pre-order area linked to Amazon where gamers can get Killzone 3 and a limited edition of the game that includes a jetpack that can be used by the Home avatar.

Players can also pre-order the Unlock and Load Pack, which grants a buyer three Unlock Points redeemable in Killzone 3, and the Retro Map Pack, which includes two adapted maps taken from the previous edition of the game.

Sony hopes that the Killzone 3 themed area of PlayStation Home will increase interest in the first-person shooter and will allow potential customers to see what the experience has to offer without needing to download a demo or go to a store to see the game in action.

Killzone 3 has an official launch date of February 22 in North America.
