Have fun with some new multiplayer weapons

The PlayStation 3 hasn't really experienced a lot of blockbuster exclusives this year, but it certainly started 2009 with a bang when the team at Guerrilla Games finally released their eagerly anticipated Killzone 2 first person shooter.

The title went on to become quite successful, and its multiplayer mode is currently quite popular, especially after seeing the Steel and Titanium DLC map pack arrive a few months ago and more recently the Flash and Thunder one. Now, the title is prepping to receive a brand-new add-on, in the form of the Napalm and Cordite map pack.

Included in this new piece of DLC will be two new multiplayer maps, Suljeva Cliffside, which will reveal the rocky outskirts of the Suljeva mining village, and Arctower Landing, which will revisit the famous Arctower defense posts of Blood Meridian.

Now, Sony has seen fit to tease Killzone 2 fans some more, by adding two new weapons in the multiplayer mode, the VC1 Flamethrower and the Boltgun 4400, which were previously exclusive to the single player campaign. Each of these will appear in one of the two maps, guaranteeing some exciting and at the same time chaotic action. Here are some more details about them, as found on the PlayStation blog.

Napalm: The VC1 Flamethrower

Found in the Suljeva Cliffside map, the VC1 Flamethrower projects an ignited stream of flammable liquid at high pressure. Consisting of low-octane gasoline and an unidentified component indigenous to Helghan, this form of Napalm is extremely effective for clearing out enemy trenches and bunkers.

Cordite: The Boltgun 4400

Also known as “The Handyman”, the semi-automatic Boltgun 4400 can be picked up in the Arctower Landing map. It uses Cordite to propel metal bolts at an extremely high velocity, often pinning its targets to walls and other objects. In addition, each round contains a time-delayed explosive charge – so if impalement doesn’t finish the target off, the ensuing explosion will.

Overall, the Napalm and Cordite pack is looking extremely good. Look forward to it on July 23, as part of the weekly update of the PlayStation Store. That is also when we will see just how much this new pack will cost. Until then, you can check out this video with the two weapons in action.
