Dropped your DS? Japanese citizens make sure you get it back

Yesterday's DJ Mark'E's program at Japan’s Funky 802FM radio station was immediately interrupted when someone found a dropped Nintendo DS in a park in Kyoto's Fushimi-ku ward.

The good citizen rushed to a police box with his finding. Of course authorities also did their job and announced via the upper mentioned radio station hoping the owner listened. And he did.

Not much later, the handheld gaming device was again in the possession of the young owner who greeted it with tears of joy. Really now, and I'm not the only one asking this question, what would happen if you dropped your DS anywhere else in the world? Who even takes the time of declaring a lost item, not to mention keeping it for themselves?

After all the terrible stories about the Nintendo Wii, this makes me feel all warm inside knowing that some people actually have the “Good Samaritan” spirit in them and do the right thing.

Let's think about it this way: you find a Nintendo DS lying on the sidewalk; naturally (don’t feel bad about yourself, most people would do this), you happily take the device in your hand, take a good look around to see if anyone saw you and then carefully put it in your pocket going on with whatever it was that you were doing. But, what if you actually saw the small, innocent kid dropping it? You'd think again about taking it, huh?

I don't think that was the case here as the man who found it put it in a police box, so when you're in Japan, don't worry if you drop your wallet or something, someone will find it for you and all you have to do is tune in to Japan's Funky 802FM radio station.
