Kelly Preston confirms Charlie Sheen’s story about 1990 shooting: it wasn’t him

While still on his “Torpedo” tour, Charlie Sheen told fans that he didn’t shoot Kelly Preston in 1990, when they were living together: she actually shot herself. On a recent public outing, the actress confirmed his story.

TMZ caught up with the actress when leaving a restaurant in Hollywood the other night, and asked her about the much-mediated incident and what really went on behind closed doors.

As it turns out, Sheen didn’t shoot her in a fit of rage or during a violent fight, as the tabloids had it at the time: she shot herself by accident.

“Kelly Preston is backing up her ex-fiancé Charlie Sheen – confirming he DID NOT pull the trigger during the infamous 1990 shooting incident and insisting the whole thing was a ‘complete accident’,” TMZ writes.

A smiling Kelly told the TMZ paparazzi (see the video here) that Sheen had a gun in the pocket of his pants and it fell out and discharged, injuring her.

“Kelly – who’s now married to John Travolta – was leaving Mr. Chow after a dinner date with Kirstie Alley when she explained what REALLY happened that night... and it syncs up perfectly with Charlie’s explanation,” TMZ writes.

On tour, Sheen talked about the incident, saying that he knew he would be blamed for it, and even joking that, when he heard the gunshot, he thought Kelly “finally did it” and killed herself.

He also said that he had left his pants in the bathroom and was downstairs in the kitchen grabbing coffee when it happened.

Kelly picked up the pants, the gun fell out and discharged without her even touching it. She was injured in the arm – Sheen said that it was either shrapnel or pieces from the toilet bowl that caused the injury.

After the incident, Kelly broke off her engagement to Sheen, which is part of the reason why most media outlets were convinced it was him who had shot her.
