14 DAY TRIAL // Before he was the winning warlock that he is today, when he was still just a hotshot actor, Charlie Sheen dated Kelly Preston. In 1990, he even reportedly shot her in the house they shared, which made her break off the engagement with him.
In Vancouver the other night, Sheen addressed the topic of the shooting, saying that he never even as much as pointed a gun at Kelly, who is now John Travolta’s wife and who refused to comment on the incident from the second it happened to this very day.
As fans must know, Sheen is now on his “My Violent Torpedo of Truth” tour and, among other things, he’s also dishing out details on aspects of his personal life that have been long mediated, but that were never addressed by him in public.
The same goes for the Kelly Preston shooting story: according to Charlie, the actress shot herself by accident in the bathroom of their house.
TMZ has video of the actor speaking about the incident on his recent live show – and he makes a point of stressing that he was not even in the same room with Kelly when it happened.
The purpose of reliving that, in front of a live audience, no less, is to put to rest those reports that he shot Kelly during an argument – years after it happened but, as the saying goes, never too late.
He was in the kitchen getting a cup of coffee when he heard the shot. Obviously, he decided to put the cup down and check out what had happened, he says, before joking that a gunshot in the morning is more effective at waking one up than any brand of coffee.
Sheen also says his first thought was “She did, she finally did it and killed herself.”
“Charlie explained Kelly had picked up a pair of his pants in the bathroom – when a revolver that was secreted in his pocket fell to the ground and discharged. Sheen claims the bullet hit the toilet and either shrapnel or a piece of porcelain from the toilet ricocheted and struck her,” TMZ writes.
The actor also says that he knew from the moment he heard the gunshot he would be blamed for whatever had happened.
In all fairness, as noted above, Preston never talked about the incident in public, though she was the one to break off the engagement afterwards.
So far, no comment from her on Sheen’s recent revelation. Here is video of it.
