Kellan Lutz is finally reaping the fruits of his labor on the highly successful vampire franchise, “The Twilight Saga.” Fans will see him next in the highly anticipated horror reboot “Nightmare on Elm Street,” which is only weeks away, and, of course, they can already admire him in the current Calvin Klein X campaign. Now, he’s also been cast in the upcoming “War of the Gods,” MTV informs.

As Hollywood is focusing more on making films inspired by Greek mythology, it was only to be expected for some studio to nab one of the hottest actors on the scene right now, which is Kellan. The star, who rose to international attention as the buff Emmett Cullen, is slowly but surely becoming a very bankable actor, joining a rather small group of artists of his age. Being cast as Poseidon in “War of the Gods” can be seen as irrefutable proof in this sense.

“‘Twilight’ actor Kellan Lutz is the newest recruit in ‘War of the Gods,’ the upcoming Greek mythology epic from director Tarsem Singh (‘The Fall’). Lutz has earned the role of Poseidon, the Greek god that rules over the seas, according to Variety. He joins an impressive cast list that includes Henry Cavill (‘The Tudors’) as the heroic Theseus, Mickey Rourke (‘Iron Man 2’) as the ruthless King Hyperion and Freida Pinto (‘Slumdog Millionaire’) as Phaedra, an oracle priestess,” MTV says of the upcoming production.

“‘War of the Gods’ is a swords-and-sandals epic centered on mortal soldiers caught in a war between the eternal Greek gods and the evil Titans, with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance. Production is scheduled to begin in April based on a screenplay written by Jason Keller. ‘War of the Gods’ is the latest in a string of movies dealing with Greek mythology. Director Chris Columbus’ ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’ debuted in February to positive reviews and solid box-office success, while Louis Leterrier’s ‘Clash of the Titans’ remake will land in both regular and 3-D theaters on April 2,” the aforementioned media outlet informs.

As one can easily see, interest in and demand for such productions are both soaring, so getting Lutz as Poseidon can’t but be a smart move. Add to that the casting of Mickey Rourke, who’s been seeing an astonishing revival of his career ever since “The Wrestler” came out, and that of Freida Pinto, yet another very promising young star, and one can see why “War of the Gods” sounds like a movie that will be generating plenty of hype in the months to come.
