The second trailer for the upcoming “Nightmare on Elm Street” remake is out and it’s already getting fans excited, first and foremost, because it promises not to ruin the original series but to actually add more to it and thus introduce it to new audiences as well. Starring Jackie Earle Haley as the dream killer with the striped sweater and messy Fedora, “Nightmare on Elm Street” is out at the end of April this year, as MovieFone can confirm.

The trailer released hours ago offers fans a very good look at Haley as Freddy Krueger, but also at the other actors who will be appearing in the film and, quite expected, screaming their lungs out. These include “Twilight” star and latest Calvin Klein underwear model Kellan Lutz and “Smallville’s” Kyle Gallner, along with many other young stars who make up the group of teenagers who only have one thing in common: a strange man who appears in their dreams and is very dangerous, Freddy.

“Slasher movie fans, Freddy has come for you – in the new trailer for the upcoming remake of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street.’ Freddy Krueger, the demonic killer who lives in teenagers’ dreams is back; but instead of watching a new batch of kids get cut up, we’re getting a not-so-‘80s look at how the terrifying story began (luckily the red-and-green sweater remains). The casting of Jackie Earle Haley, as Krueger, is still the most exciting aspect about this project. The Oscar-nominated character actor of ‘Watchmen’ fame seems like one of the only people on the planet who can replace the original Krueger, Robert Englund, and not be the victim of rabid fanbase backlash. This just-released trailer is our best look at Haley’s burnt-up, nightmare monster,” the aforementioned publication says of the trailer.

“Our first thoughts: It’s not a bad trailer. Director Samuel Bayer seems to have taken a lot of the classic moments from the original ‘Nightmare’ and given them a nice, visual overhaul. And there’s just enough teases of Haley to make us want to see more. This is the latest film from Platinum Dunes, the Michael Bay-run production company that specializes in remaking horror films. They’ve already given us reboots of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre,’ ‘Amityville Horror,’ and ‘Friday the 13th’ – three glossy-looking, very serious updates that achieved mixed results,” the e-zine goes on to say.

Indeed, one of the biggest issues with the remake was who to get to play the iconic Freddy after Robert Englund literally made history for his take on the serial killer. Another issue was how to make the horror story “actual” when Freddy’s power over his victims was that no one knew who he was – a thing virtually impossible these days given the easy access to Internet and information. It seems producers found a way around that, but we’ll only get to know which that is when the film comes out. In the meantime, below is the trailer. Enjoy.
