Also, why Inafune is compelled to stick to male characters with Onimusha

Yes he does, it's not a joke. Apparently, the video game designer loves the character he's created so much, that 20 years isn't by far enough for a name such as Mega Man. And he's right. 1UP.com conducted this poll to see just how many gamers are dying out there for a new Mega Man. Care to know how many and what the odds are for Inafune to start up work on it soon?

Among the pertinent questions asked by 1UP's James Mielke, Inafune was compelled to reveal loads of details on Resident Evil 5, a Shadows of Rome sequel and of course, Onimusha. 1UP asked: "Have you ever thought about having a female actor as the main character in an Onimusha game, since all of the leads have been male actors?"

Inafune replied: "Personally in making games, I'd like to make more female main characters, but the people around me say "You can't make a female main character, it's not going to sell. It won't work." So everybody says no to me when I want more female characters. "

But when it came to Mega Man, Inafune had a very interesting statement to make, aside thanking everyone who enjoyed the Mega Man series of games. The interviewer asked Inafune whether he had anything to say "in regards to Mega Man's 20th anniversary." Yes, the designer's answer is what the title said, but read the whole thing:

"First of all I'd like to say thank you to people who've bought Mega Man games over the years, especially the people who have been supporting him from the beginning. I created Mega Man, I love Mega Man, and I hope he continues for 20 more years and maybe he'll turn 40. I just hope that everybody continues to support him and I'll do my best to keep giving you good games to play."

So rest assured: by the looks of things, Mega Man isn't going anywhere. Inafune loves his character very much, as you've probably already noticed, and so, Resident Evil 5 is surely not the last next-gen title we'll be seeing by the end of 2009 from Capcom.
