All Capcom needs is the money. Do you have any on you...?

For a video game like the Mega Man series to be ported to a next-gen console, it is very possible, but also very hard. Not because the team has to work more and better to achieve what next-gen-game means, but primarily because of lacking resources. Although Capcom is a hot shot developer, having released titles such as the Resident Evil series and Zelda, the team can't afford taking any risks either.

Thus, to get a better answer to the question "Is there going to be a next-gen Mega Man coming from Capcom in the future," 1UP's guys sat down with the creator of the Mega Man series and tried squeezing an answer out of him. Here are some excerpts, posted by the same interviewing site:

"I'm waiting for a rich person to appear and throw money at me," Inafune joked. "I'm not even saying it has to be Capcom money. It could be EA, actually. I should say a company we have ties with, so maybe Rockstar."

"If I was able to make a sequel without having to worry about money in any shape or form, I think it probably would be Mega Man Legends 3. And that's not just me -- a lot of the original team members would also love to make a sequel. They talk about it. I talk about it sometimes. I know they love that series and so do I. If I were to say right now, I have a tiny, tiny, tiny dream that I wish I could realize, but I don't know if it's possible, it would be to do a sequel in the Legends series. The framework that we used for our next-gen titles, creating it was not easy -- it took talented individuals. One was the main programmer on Mega Man Legends. He said, while creating it, he was envisioning how Lost Planet would fit in it, and how Dead Rising would fit, and on top of that, now 'any time you want to make a Mega Man Legends game with this framework, it's ready. All I need is the go and we can slap Mega Man in there.'"

So basically, if they were to make a sequel to Mega Man Legends 2, it would be Mega Man Legends 3. Good, I like things that are good the way they are and stay the same. However, Inafune tries as discreetly as possible to tell the interviewers that Mega Man Legends 3 is a mere dream and there are no hopes for it now. So even if the team does get its funding, fans will still have to wait quite a lot for the game to be released.

To be honest with you, as much as I try staying away from the typical Japanese titles, Tekken, Castlevania and Mega Man are the kind of games that grab you from the first seconds of play. I personally would love to see a next-gen Mega Man. Having skipped everything in between, I can't say for sure where all the improvements would occur, since even the first one was good. So, please Keiji Inafune, try and make your/our dream come true!
