The RPG (Role Playing Game) genre has seen a big revamp in the last period, as a lot of high-quality titles appeared, pushing the genre forward with innovative gameplay mechanics and stories. One such title is Mass Effect, which was released by BioWare, creators of other popular RPGs, including Knights of the Old Republic.

Set to achieve big sales and getting a very big fanbase, the title almost begged for a sequel to be developed, and, as it was published by Electronic Arts, you could have figured out that the recently announced Mass Effect 2 was something of a no-brainer.

But although the game has been confirmed, not a lot of other details have been revealed by its creators, which only showed a brief teaser trailer for it. Assaulted by a lot of fans on the first game's forums, Chris Priestly, the community coordinator for BioWare, revealed that fans should keep their old Mass Effect save games as they might prove valuable for the sequel.

“This is just your first taste of Mass Effect2. We are not yet discussing the details of the game,” revealed Pristly, who commented on the trailer that had just been released. He then said that “However... don't delete your Mass Effect 1 saves yet,” giving birth to an even bigger fan debate as to why this was revealed in the first place.

While there are no concrete details regarding the platforms it will arrive on, not to mention when it will be ready, we can surely expect a lot of teaser statements to appear in the near future from either BioWare or EA. Until then, we can only speculate as to why we should keep the save games and, if the case, search for them on our PC or Xbox 360 hard drives.
