Katy Perry, now Mrs. Russell Brand, has released the official video for her third single off the “Teenage Dream” album. Just like the song is meant to be a teen power anthem, the video is dedicated to victims of bullying.

The video for "Firework" opens with Katy in evening gown, stepping out on a huge terrace. As she sings, the camera focuses on different stories of people who feel “like a waste of space,” as the words of the song say.

There’s a boy covering his sister’s ears to prevent her from hearing what their parents are saying, because they’re fighting and things are on the verge of becoming very violent.

There’s a young girl sitting out on a pool party because she’s obviously so insecure about her body she doesn’t dare take off her clothes to join in.

There’s also a teen boy who watches a couple kissing, feeling sad because he can’t do the same with the guy he fancies; and also another boy who’s attacked in the street by a gang of teen thugs.

As fireworks start to shoot out of Katy’s chest (but not in the manner in which sparks flew out of Gaga’s in certain concerts, thanks to a rigged bra), all these people find a solution to their problems.

“’Cause baby, you’re a firework/ Come on, show ‘em what you’re worth/ Make ‘em go, oh/ As you shoot across the sky,” Katy sings. The solution to the problems is inside each and every one of us.

“You’re original, cannot be replaced” is the message of the song, and also of the video. “Everyone has the spark to be a firework,” Katy told Perez Hilton on Twitter the other day about making the video for the It Gets Better cause.

“People are coming back and almost adopting it as their own anthem, and it’s hard, I think, to write an anthem that’s not cheesy. And I hope that this could be something in that category. I hope this could be one of those things where it’s like, ‘Yeah, I want to put my fist up and feel proud and feel strong’,” Katy was saying of the song in an interview with MTV this summer.
