14 DAY TRIAL // Katy Perry took to the stage of X Factor, the live results show, over the weekend to perform her brand new single “Fireworks” and, though a seasoned performer, had some issues getting it off the ground.
This is not the first time the singer is on the show since, no later than this summer, she was one of the temporary judges brought in for the first round of auditions.
Still, getting on the stage to perform for the 4 judges was even more nerve-wrecking than being the one who gets to call the shots on whether others should sing or not, Katy admitted.
In all fairness, it more than showed in her rather hesitant rendition of “Firework,” as the Daily Mail also points out.
Katy stepped on the stage dressed in a sparkly jumpsuit with glittery fireworks on it. Her heart was definitely in it but, either because she was nervous or because her voice was too weak, she repeatedly struggled with some of the notes.
The four judges, just like the audience, were polite enough to agree to overlook the shaky performance. The fact that she tried to sing live probably earned her major points with them.
“In contrast to some of the guest performers who often mime on the results show, Katy chose to sing the track live,” the Mail also says.
“While she could be commended for singing live instead of using a backing track, it was clear to hear she struggled with some of the higher notes,” the publication says.
Then again, perhaps she was too nervous and this ended up by affecting her voice and her performance.
“It’s still nerve-wracking cos it’s like you’re being judged still,” she said when asked on which side of the barricade she felt better. “Did I do OK?” she asked the judges.
They, of course, smile, nodded and applauded nicely. After the show, Katy also took to her Twitter to say she had never felt so nervous in her life.
“Oh my gawd, I was so nervous! Thanks X Factor for making me feel like I was actually one of the contestants,” Perry tweeted.
She actually fared much worse than any of the contestants now in the running for the big prize, word on the web has it.
