14 DAY TRIAL // The newly renamed TLC show “Kate Plus 8,” featuring Kate Gosselin and her eight children and minus soon to be ex-husband Jon, has just been put on hold, TMZ informs. The problem, it seems, is that Jon sees it as an exploitation of his children and, concerned they may come to be harmed from continuing to be a part of it, he has instructed his attorney to pull all the necessary stops to prevent production. Kate, as it’s easily understood, is not happy about it.
“It appears that Jon’s priority is Jon and his interests... I’m saddened and confused by Jon’s public media statements. Jon has never expressed any concerns to me about our children being involved in the show and, in fact, is on the record as saying he believes the show benefits our children.” Kate Gosselin says in a recent press statement, after TLC’s announcement that the production has come to a halt until an understanding is reached.
The reason why Jon got so upset with the network, reports say, is that he wanted out of his contract in order to pursue a “solo” career. TLC, in return, was willing to give him more money and feature him on the show less, with the only condition that he be barred from doing other shows for the duration of the contract. Jon did not agree, which is why the network proceeded to fire him, while also retaining exclusivity with him for the remaining of the contract.
Now, not only has Jon been dropped from his own show, but he’ll also be making less money, given the reduced onscreen time he’ll get once “Kate Plus 8” officially kicks in. Naturally, the majority of US media outlets speculate, he’s not happy because this is not how he imagined he’d be spending the next few months (word has it Jon’s been actively working on getting his own show), so he’s set to not go down without a bang. First, he tried to stall divorce proceedings by asking for a 90-day extension to the sentence to work out family issues (which Kate did not agree with), and now he’s trying to mess with Kate’s show.
“TMZ’s confirmed Jon has sent a letter to TLC demanding they halt production of ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ or any other show with his children STAT. Gosselin now claims the filming is detrimental to his kids and he’s now determined to bring in police if that’s what it takes to stop the production. So coincidence? Jon was just 86’d from the show – which will be relaunched as ‘Kate Plus 8’ in November – and a day later he’s suddenly worried about the kids he sporadically sees. A source connected with the production says Jon had no problem shooting the show as recently as last Friday... but since he was essentially fired from the show this week, he’s suddenly worried about his children.” TMZ writes of the latest developments in the Gosselin drama.
