It was too mouse intensive

When the Kane's Wrath expansion for Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars was released, one of the most important distinctions from a typical add-on was the inclusion of a game mode called Global Conquest.

The mode allowed the player to take control of one of the three sides, and then proceed to conquer the whole Earth, while creating and updating bases on a turn based strategic layer. Task forces were also created, with resources obtained from city and Tiberium control, and meetings between the task forces were resolved via real time combat stages with clear objectives. The new mode was fun because of the extra challenge of the strategic layer and because of the way task forces could be very different, leading to interesting match ups.

However, it seems that even if the game mode was well received on the PC, the new Xbox 360 version of the game will be shipped without it.

When talking to Computer and Videogames, Jim Vessella, the lead producer on the Xbox 360 version of the game, said: "When we were focus testing that feature for the Xbox version, we found that it wasn't getting as good a response as it had on PC. We found that it was a bit more niche type of gameplay, the turn-based gameplay wasn't gelling as much with the 360 fan base."

In addition to the turn based system which was not well received, some other issues were also generated by the fact that the mode required a very good controller precision to play out smoothly. The gamepad control scheme that the team was implementing in the game was not accurate enough when compared with a good old mouse control scheme. So the mode was dropped altogether, to give way to a new game mode which is called Kane's Challenge, is exclusive to the Xbox 360 version and comes with new modes of play and brand new videos featuring Kane himself.
