Justin Bieber nearly causes a riot at fragrance launch, is tackled but unhurt

Justin Bieber went to Macy’s in New York to launch his first fragrance for women, Someday. While he may be used to dealing with thousands of screaming fans who can get unruly at times, what happened at the perfume launch was a bit more than he may have bargained for, as the video below will confirm.

As the pop star came out from the store to greet his fans and, as is his habit, pose for pictures and wave at them, a man rushed towards him, tackled him to the ground, as per some reports, and had to be restrained by security.

Initial reports had it that the man was a “crazed fan” who jumped the barricade and lashed out at Bieber for no other reason than to harm him.

Even though Bieber’s bodyguards kept pushing him away, he still tried to punch the singer, it was said.

TMZ has learned that, while this may have appeared to be the case on the outside, the entire melee was just one huge misunderstanding.

The “attacker” was actually a plainclothes officer who rushed to help Bieber out because he noticed that the fans were starting to push through the barricades.

“The crowd became unruly and a plainclothes police officer rushed to help the singer. Problem is – Bieber didn’t know the guy was a cop – so when the cop got close to Justin, Bieber got defensive thinking he was a crazy fan,” TMZ writes.

“A member of Bieber’s security team immediately grabbed the cop and tried to pull him away. The cop quickly identified himself – and cited the security team member for disorderly conduct,” the e-zine notes.

In a separate post, TMZ says that the fault for this minor incident goes to Justin’s security team, which allowed him to step outside of Macy’s and thus “deviate from a carefully planned route,” nearly causing a fan riot.

Even though he is believed to have been knocked to the ground in the altercation, Justin was not hurt. In fact, minutes after it happened, he was back inside the store, signing autographs.
