Julie Benz, whom many fans know and love for her part as Rita on Showtime’s immensely successful “Dexter” series, is one of the most attractive stars on television right now. She’s can also be seen on “Desperate Housewives” where, as fans must know, being in top shape is almost a prerequisite. Unlike many other stars, Julie has no problem admitting that she works really hard to stay in shape.

Also unlike the vast majority of female stars, this actress knows that weight training will not make her manly by pumping up her muscles to the point where her body loses all traces of femininity. On the contrary actually, Benz reveals in an interview cited by How Celebrities Lose Weight, she can vouch lifting weights is her secret to staying in shape: not only does it not make you bulkier, but it is also guaranteed to help you shift those few extra pounds.

“There’s this misconception that if you involve lifting heavy weights in your fitness exercise program, you’re going to bulk up. As a woman, I can attest that you don’t bulk up – you actually trim down with this kind of fitness exercise program,” Benz says. With a body like hers at the age of 37, one can safely say that she knows what she’s talking about. However, weight training is not all Benz does to stay in shape, because she also does pole dancing, which is now acknowledged as a very intense and challenging exercise routine, and sticks to a strict diet to help her in the fight against the extra pounds.

“Aside from her fitness exercise program, Julie Benz also recently gave some insight into what a daily meal diet plan looks like for her on a busy schedule. To start her day, she has a big breakfast since she has to be on her way to filming by 4am. Below is a sample of her diet plan: Breakfast Coffee, Fiber One cereal with yogurt and then later an egg and veggie burrito with fruit. Lunch: Tuna fish with brown rice, avocado with a squeeze of lime, cooked broccoli and water with lemon. Snack: KIND brand fruit and nut bar of almond and apricot. Dinner: Persian chicken with a salad and a glass of pinot grigio and for a light ‘dessert’ a cup of chocolate chip mint tea,” HCLW writes.

The star also takes diet supplements, like the Intelligent Nutrients’ organic Intellimune products, which are meant to increase her intake of antioxidants, the same e-zine says. However, the real challenge for her comes when she’s on set, working up to 15 hours daily, which means she’s more exposed to temptations because there are times when, as she puts it, “everyone eats everything.”
