Batman fans may still feel like Ben Affleck was the worst choice possible for the Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel, but he’s getting lots of support from his fellow actors. Josh Brolin is among them.

In a new interview cited by The Huffington Post, Brolin confirms older rumors that he was, indeed, in talks for the Batman role in the film, believed to be called “Batman vs. Superman.”

He didn’t get to speak with Zack Snyder in person, but early negotiations were conducted through his agent.

“We did. I didn't have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn't turn out. It's OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I'm happy for Ben,” Brolin says.

Not only is Brolin happy for Ben, but he also believes he’ll do a great job – if only given a proper chance.

After Warner Bros. announced he’d been cast for the role, angry fans took to social media to protest and threaten boycott. Some even started petitions on various websites asking Warners to uncast him because, otherwise, they would not see the movie – or any that they might make with Affleck.

One particular petition asked the White House to make it illegal for Affleck to play Batman “for the next 200 years,” so, yes, it’s safe to say that he’s been getting a lot of hate online since the announcement.

Brolin doesn’t understand it.

“I've never seen such a global reaction in my life. I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal,” he says.

“It's like, ‘[Expletive] this guy, I wish he was dead.’ And you're like, ‘What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He's doing the same thing you are. He's trying to make the best choices he can’,” the actor adds.
