Reaction to yesterday’s announcement continues to be incredibly negative

I wouldn’t trade places with Ben Affleck right now because, if he cares about what people say of him at all, he must be having a very hard time to see how much hate he’s getting for being cast as Batman in Zack Snyder’s “Batman vs. Superman.”

And it’s not just hate coming his way. Many fans have actually started online petitions to get Warner Bros. to understand that they don’t agree with their choice which, of course, means that they must uncast Affleck from the movie.

Variety notes that, in just a matter of hours, fans started over 30 petitions, all of them blasting Affleck as the worst possible choice ever for the role of the Caped Crusader.

Here’s where it’s getting interesting: Variety points out that the “hate campaign” is very similar to how fans reacted when Chris Nolan announced that Heath Ledger was his choice for The Joker in “The Dark Knight.”

Ledger, you see, had just done “a gay movie” (“Brokeback Mountain”) and had worked in the past on several rom-coms. He couldn’t possibly have enough depth and darkness and talent in him to be a good villain, let alone The Joker!

For those who don’t know, Ledger won an Oscar posthumously for his portrayal, which is hailed – to this day – as one of the most chilling and flawless performances in modern cinema.

Without comparing the two, I’m just saying that Affleck too deserves a chance before we write him off like that.
