Johnny Depp has grown dissatisfied with the movie industry and is seriously contemplating quitting it to enjoy life in peace and quiet. For the first time ever (that I can recall), he’s hinting at a possible retirement.

As I noted on previous occasions, Depp’s most recent film, “The Lone Ranger,” was panned by critics and underperformed at the box office, but he makes it sound as if his decision has nothing to do with that.

“Are there quieter things I wouldn’t mind doing? Yes, I wouldn’t mind that. I wouldn’t say I am dropping out any second but I would say it’s not too far away,” Depp says in a recent interview cited by EntertainmentWise.

Retirement might not be “too far away,” but it’s far away enough to allow us to forget about it until then.

Asked if he’s thinking of quitting before the next “Pirates of the Caribbean” installment or the sequel to “Alice in Wonderland,” Depp says, “No, I think we’re alright in those categories.”

Bullet dodged.
